Since their introduction, these spaces have been used 77 times, with 94% of youth reporting an improvement in their overall well-being.

Officials note that all children in the justice system have experienced some form of trauma, and the new spaces are designed to support healing and self-regulation. The center is the first facility of its kind in Ohio and the second in the United States to implement such an initiative, following a similar program in Sacramento County, California.

What this space does for us is gives us a place to help them learn about themselves, find some regulation and get a little bit closer to healing. The Hamilton County Juvenile Justice Center is the first youth detention facility in Ohio, the second in the nation to get something like this. The first implemented in Sacramento County, CA.
