A male suspect is wanted by police after a woman was slashed with a knife on a subway train in Wall Street Station.

A 29-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and robbed of her phone at the Wall Street subway station in lower Manhattan. The incident occurred late at night on the number three train platform, and police are actively searching for the suspect, whose images have been released from surveillance footage.

This attack follows a similar incident earlier in the week, where a 25-year-old woman was stabbed in the back at a Chelsea subway station. Police have made an arrest in the Chelsea case, charging a 21-year-old man with attempted murder and assault. Both women are being treated at Bellevue Medical Center and are expected to recover. Authorities note that while overall subway crime is down, felony assaults remain a concern, and riders have expressed ongoing worries about safety.

The number three train here at the Wall Street station, a 29-year-old woman viciously stabbed all over her body by this armed robber who took her phone. And this was the second time that a woman has been attacked in the subway this week. Now, NYPD detectives are actively looking for the man in these surveillance photos and video. They tell us he is the suspect, armed with a knife, who confronted a woman in her 20s on the number three train at the Wall Street station just after 11 p.m. Police say he began slashing and stabbing her in both arms, her elbow and back, and took her phone. In an earlier incident on Tuesday in Chelsea, a 25-year-old woman was walking into the train station at West 23rd Street and 8th Avenue when a man stabbed her in the back for no reason. Police acted quickly and tell us they arrested 21-year-old Carlos Rivera of West 25th Street and charged him with attempted murder and three counts of assault. Officials say overall subway crime is down, but not for felony assaults. Women rioters tell me violence against women is a daily worry. Here's what some of them told us. I mean, it's getting harder and harder. I don't know what we can do. All people can do is watch out for their back, pay attention to your surroundings. Be cautious. But at the same time, you don't know when someone is going to attack you. So the city needs to do better for everybody, because we are paying the price. I still feel safe because of the people and the crowd, but if that's going on, I think that we should put more safety. Now both women were taken to Bellevue Medical Center, where we're told they are in stable condition and expected to survive.
