In north-eastern Montenegro, where temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, a wildfire burned for a second day, some residents returned to homes ravaged by flames. The hardest thing for me is the emotional aspect. Everything that can be bought can be compensated, but the memories that burned in these four rooms and in the large attic of our house cannot be compensated. It was a similar story in Turkey, where a blaze continued to rage after sparking in the north-western province of Canakkale on Monday. It is terrible. We've never seen anything like this. Houses, vehicles, everything burned down. The wildfires come as Europe experiences hotter and drier summers. Figures from the EU's Copernicus climate change monitor showed drought levels were the highest on record for the month of July since data collection began in 2012.
