Political analysts suggest that Mamdani has the most to lose, as he aims to maintain his lead, while Cuomo and Lewa see the debate as a final opportunity to shift the race in their favor. The debate's three-candidate format adds unpredictability, making it harder for candidates to directly contrast themselves with a single opponent. The event is expected to draw significant attention both locally and nationally.

Who has the most to lose in New York City mayoral debate?

Each candidate is going to try to make their case to New Yorkers later tonight. Fox News' Lisa Averiss joins us now in studio with more on what we can expect from this high-stakes debate, Lisa. People looking forward to this one. Yes, they are, Bianca. A lot of eyes will be on this for sure. The three major candidates had no events scheduled this morning as they focus on getting ready for the debate tonight at NBC's Rockefeller Center Studios. There's a lot of anticipation about what will happen and if any of the three will surprise us and shake up the race. Since the beginning of the race for mayor, poll numbers for frontrunner Zoran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Republican candidate Curtis Lewa have varied a little bit up and down, but their ranking positions have not changed. Tonight's debate is a chance to do just that. Strictly from a logic numbers game perspective, Mamdani has the most to lose because he's ahead and he wants to be ahead after tonight. So he wants to keep that up. Clearly, this is the last best shot that either Cuomo or Lewa have to make a change in this race. Now the setup of the debate where there are three candidates instead of two going head to head is like a wild card that could shake up the race or not get played at all, says Rider University political science professor Micah Rasmussen. It's a little tougher for the candidates to get that one-on-one that they want with their opponents that way. You clearly always want a situation in which you are seen as the alternative of the person that you're drawing a contrast with, and it's not as easy for them to get that. Now Professor Rasmussen says this could very well be Cuomo's last chance to get to the top spot, with Lewa's only hope being that the top two cancel each other out. We're sure there will be many eyes on this debate here in the city and around the country. It's being hosted by NBC4 New York, Telemundo, and Politico, and starts at 7 p.m. Bianca?
