European businesses are increasingly affected by cyber security incidents, with more than one in five experiencing issues such as IT outages, data corruption, and confidential information leaks. Finland has the highest rate of affected businesses in the EU, with over 40% reporting incidents, while Poland and Malta also face significant challenges. Austria and Slovenia are the least impacted.

Consumer anxiety mirrors business concerns, as half of European consumers believe they will inevitably fall victim to cyber threats, and a majority worry about online safety weekly. Across major European economies, 77% of people reported being targeted by cyber incidents in the past year, with Spain experiencing the highest rate. The most common threats include retail fraud, cryptocurrency scams, and increasingly, AI-generated frauds, which most people feel ill-equipped to detect.

Shopping and retail cyber frauds are the most common, followed by cryptocurrency and investment schemes. Scams, finally, AI generated scams are now the number one concern. Only 8% of people across the five biggest European economies believe they could detect AI fraud, with Italians being the least confident at just 6%.
