The Israeli military released drone footage it claims shows Hamas gunmen firing on civilians, but independent analysis could not confirm the video's connection to the incidents in question. Another shooting was reported days later, with Israel stating it fired warning shots at suspects deviating from designated routes. Restrictions on media access to Gaza have made independent verification of these events challenging, contributing to ongoing disinformation.

What we know about alleged shootings near Gaza food distribution sites. Competing narratives have emerged off the back of a series of reported fatal shootings which targeted Palestinians near the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's food distribution sites close to Rafa. An initial incident reportedly took place on the 1st of June near a centre run by the US and Israeli-backed GHF. Israel denies allegations that its forces opened fire on locals queuing for aid in Rafa while the GHF told Euroverify that no incidents occurred at or in the surrounding vicinity of their distribution site on Sunday. Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry, local witnesses and international organisations say otherwise declaring that at least 31 people were killed. The Red Cross said that 179 adults and children arrived at its Rafa hospital with shrapnel and gunshot wounds, adding that 21 individuals were declared dead. Following the conflicting reports, the IDF shared this drone footage on X, which it said showed masked Hamas gunmen shooting at residents queuing for humanitarian aid. A number of online users interpreted the video as proof that Hamas shot at Palestinians attempting to access aid. This Israeli spokesperson said the footage showed an incident in Khan Younis. Euroverify conducted reverse image searches but was not able to determine if the video was connected to the incident. Yet another incident occurred on the 3rd of June when at least 27 Palestinians waiting for aid in Rafa were shot dead according to local Hamas-run authorities. Israel claims it fired warning shots at suspects who were attempting to deviate off designated access routes through a distribution hub in southern Gaza. The Israeli army said it was aware of reported casualties and that it was investigating the incident. Israel has banned international media from accessing the Gaza Strip except on army press stores, making it difficult to independently verify information on the ground which fuels disinformation from both sides.
