Ukraine's EU ambassador joined Euronews' Europe Today for an exclusive interview ahead of the 27-member bloc's summit on Thursday.

Ukraine's EU ambassador has expressed optimism that Hungary's resistance to Ukraine's EU accession can be overcome, noting that 26 out of 27 EU member states already support Ukraine's candidacy. In an interview, he highlighted the significance of ongoing support from both Europe and the United States to help Ukraine defend itself and prevent the conflict from spreading.

The ambassador also mentioned his confidence that US President Donald Trump would uphold a commitment to supply Kyiv with Patriot missiles. He reiterated that Ukraine is ready to begin accession talks as soon as consensus within the EU is reached.

Speaking to Euronews, he said it was important to concentrate on support. We are fighting to stop this war, first of all, and we are fighting for our European future. Ukraine is a candidate state and we are ready to start accession talks. As soon as there is a consensus. So we have 26 member states supporting. And I am sure we will be able to convince Hungary to get on board. Chantsov also said that it is crucial to continue supporting Ukraine to keep Russia from invading other countries. Well, it's good there is an understanding that Russia is a threat. And we kept telling about this imminent threat if Europe is not defended, if Ukraine is left alone. So to avoid this continuation, this broadening of the conflict, so Europe and the United States has to help Ukraine to stop this war. Chantsov said he was confident that US President Donald Trump would stick to his word on a commitment to supply Kyiv with Patriot missiles.
