The humanitarian crisis has intensified, with UN experts warning of famine conditions and Human Rights Watch describing aid sites as dangerous, where nearly 900 people have reportedly been killed, most by the Israeli army. 

Efforts to distribute aid have been hampered, with thousands of trucks loaded with supplies waiting outside Gaza for permission to enter. The crisis is compounded by the ongoing hostage situation, with videos released of visibly malnourished hostages and negotiations for their release reportedly stalled.

'We can't even find a loaf of bread:' Desperation takes hold in Gaza

We can't even find a loaf of bread, which is something so basic. So we come to the charity kitchen here to eat and to provide food for our children. Every morning when my little daughter wakes up, she says, Daddy, I'm hungry. It is a humanitarian crisis that has accumulated slowly and excruciatingly for Palestinians. In May, Israel appointed the US-run Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to begin aid distribution after blocking all food, water, medicine and basic supplies from entering the Gaza Strip for more than two months. Human Rights Watch describes their sites as death traps, at which nearly 900 people have been killed, most by the Israeli army. The number of airdrops and aid has slightly increased during the last week, but much more is needed. On Friday, the head of UNRWA said there were 6,000 trucks loaded with aid stuck outside Gaza, waiting for the green light to enter. On the same day, Hamas broadcast a video of hostage Eviatar David looking skeletally thin. His family did not want it shared. An allied Islamic Jihad militant group had also released a video of hostage Ron Braslavsky. His father then appealed directly to the Israeli Prime Minister. Bibi, with all due respect, look into his eyes and see how hungry he is. Look at him and tell us if this can continue. According to the Israeli army, 49 hostages are still being held in Gaza, including 27 who are deceased. But negotiations to release them as part of a ceasefire appear to be at a standstill once more.
