Turning now to Capitol Hill, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio—he's also the national security adviser, by the way—briefed the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees today. That group is known informally as the Gang of Eight. The primary topic, as you might well imagine, strikes on alleged drug boats off the coast of Venezuela. Kaitlin Huey Burns joins me now. Kaitlin, what did we learn today? Hey, Major. Well, I was standing outside that skiff, what's known as that highly secure area outside—sorry, in the basement of the Capitol, before coming over to you. And as I was making my way over to you, that's when senators started to leave this briefing. And we were told by Senator Warner, who is the ranking member of the Intelligence Committee on the Senate side, that they were not shown the video that Admiral Bradley showed lawmakers last week during a separate briefing. This was a different kind of briefing. It was with the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. You don't see him up here on Capitol Hill very often, so that was noteworthy, along with Marco Rubio, as you mentioned, the secretary of state. And there are a lot of questions that these lawmakers have, as you can imagine, about those strikes. And it was so notable last week when we were covering that briefing by Bradley, because really perceptions or what people learned from those briefings really fell on partisan lines. The big question up here is whether the administration will release the video. And you've seen at least some Republicans say that, yes, it should be made public for people to see. Lawmakers want to get their hands on that video. And there is a provision in the Defense Authorization Act—you know this well—the yearly bipartisan bill that authorizes not only spending for the Pentagon, but directs policy for the Pentagon. And there's a provision tucked in there that says that they will withhold a portion, about a quarter of travel funds, for the defense secretary if he does not release that video. So that is one of the ways that lawmakers are trying to urge the Pentagon to turn it over. But basically the question that a lot of Democrats have up here is about the broader policy. And that's where Rubio could come in. They want to know, are we at war with Venezuela? And if so, what can Congress do about it? There are some members up here who want to reassert congressional authority when it comes to issues of war. And just to be clear, Caitlin, the video that we're discussing is about the September 2nd episode. The Pentagon has released some. What the lawmakers, some Republicans, many Democrats want is the full video, which shows one, two, three, four strikes, and the duration and the condition of those who survived the first attack. Very quickly, correct? That's what they're looking for? Yes, absolutely. That's correct. Caitlin Huey Burns, thank you so very much.
