Much of the United States is experiencing above average temperatures, with 130 million people affected today and 179 million expected tomorrow. However, a new weather system is set to bring a significant drop in temperatures, along with some snow in the northern regions, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday.

Travelers may begin their journeys in warm conditions but should be prepared for much colder weather, especially when heading north. The cool down is expected to be widespread by Thursday, affecting major events such as the parade in New York City.

The other part of this system is the fact that it's going to usher in some much colder air. It's been really warm. You look at some of the numbers for today, 130 million of us above average. Finding below average temperatures is really just confined to some of those higher elevations in parts, say the Western 3rd of the United States. But with this pattern change that it's not only bringing some of that snow to the northern tier, it is going to usher in much cooler temperatures and that is just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. For today, it's still running 10 to 20 degrees above average. Tomorrow, once again, 179 million of us above average. But look at how this cold air starts to spill in. Now we're at the day before Thanksgiving. A lot of people traveling. A lot of people traveling by road. You might start in your destination by wearing shorts and a T shirt. And if you're driving, especially to the North, all of a sudden you find yourself in a completely different season. But Thursday is going to be the big cool down for many of us, and that does include stuff for the parade. New York City.
