Late on Wednesday, they shot and killed Ruiz right on the spot. He was peacefully hanging out with his friends. Unfortunately, the bullet hit his chest. We want justice for him. This prompted a hearing in Congress where President José Geri, who's been one week in office, was forced to explain the situation. We stand in solidarity with his family. A legitimate citizen protest began, but unfortunately, as the hours passed, some groups had the agenda to create chaos. There was talk that the death of this protester may result in the toppling of the fragile presidency, but the interior minister acknowledged that the shooter was indeed a police officer in plain clothes. This government doesn't represent us. This Congress has no legitimacy and it can't continue passing laws that violate our rights to protest and to find justice. This situation has just added another layer to the ongoing political crisis in Peru and has angered even more Peruvians who are frustrated with the corruption, with the insecurity in the country, and they say they will continue protesting until all of the legislators and the executive are all gone.
