Good morning. The construction industry in Utah is booming, which means there's a need for people to pick up the train. I spoke with officials from different schools about why these programs matter. With Utah's population booming and the housing shortage growing, construction jobs are in high demand, and local students are stepping up to help the future. Why is it so important in Utah? Utah's growing. And Utah's growing fast. I mean, we have a housing deficit, housing shortage. We need more labor to build more houses. At Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers, high school students in the construction program are getting hands-on experience. What we have here is our tiny house. It's a small structure, single-bedroom house with a kitchen and bathroom that will be used for a homeless community downtown called the Other Side Village. And the neat opportunity about this is we're here at the school, and so they get to come here and build this. And the interest is there. My enrollment's doubled, so I went from about 40 students to over 80 students this year. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction is the second-fastest-growing industry nationwide, with more than 300,000 additional workers needed annually to meet demand. This is the first time that we've offered our full program during the summer, and all of our classes were full. That growth is being felt at Salt Lake Community College, too, where construction apprenticeships are now running full steam through summer.
