Both Democratic and Republican proposals were rejected, leading to expected significant increases in insurance costs starting next year.

A study cited in the report estimates that one in four people could lose their insurance, potentially raising healthcare costs nationwide. Lawmakers are facing mounting pressure from constituents as the enrollment deadline approaches, but time is running out for Congress to reach a compromise.

That's the question we put to Senate Majority Leader John Thune. It's not going to increase premiums in the marketplace where most people get their insurance. About 150 million Americans get theirs in the group marketplace, the employer provided insurance. Another 140 million are on Medicare and Medicaid. And then you've got this about 6 to 7 percent of the people, 23 to 24 million Americans who get their insurance in the individual marketplace, most of whom are going to continue to be covered. But Democratic Senator Cory Booker says it will have a broader impact. It is not hyperbolic to talk about the Americans that without health coverage are going to push back their care until they're in the emergency room. And yes, that could cost lives, not to mention the reality that our emergency room is going to face with longer lines, more challenges, our rural hospitals, our clinics in America are all going to see challenges with even staying open. So my choice is either have health insurance and have health care or not stay alive, essentially. For people like Hamali Patel, who suffers from an autoimmune disease that regularly puts her in the hospital for weeks at a time, she's expecting to pay four times more next year. But she is still holding out hope. I'm hoping that this doesn't remain a party issue and this remains a constituent issue and that everyone does right by their constituents. And there has been increasing pressure on these lawmakers hearing from their constituents. But Congress is running out of time to find a compromise.
