The UN Secretary General voiced concern over the situation and reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting Benin and regional partners in maintaining constitutional order. ECOWAS has been actively assisting Benin, including placing troops on standby during the coup attempt.

Our representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos-Chimau, is actively engaging with national authorities and other stakeholders as well as regional and international partners to support efforts to restore peace and stability in Benin. He reaffirmed our commitment to supporting national and regional institutions in safeguarding constitutional order in the country and across the region. To this end, he is also working with ECOWAS and the African Union to promote a regional approach. ECOWAS has been particularly active in offering assistance to Benin's authorities, notably sending troops in standby to the country during the coup attempt.
