Ukrainians reacted subduedly to a peace deal idea that would include territorial swaps. The plan was proposed by US President Donald Trump in his efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Right now we don't have the opportunity to launch an offensive to recapture our territories. That's how I see it. But to prevent people from dying, we can simply stop military operations, sign some kind of agreement, but not give up our territories, not sign that we are giving the captured territories to Russia. Some Kiev residents were slightly more open to the plan, but remained cautious. Well, of course, on condition of compensation for losses and possibly some reparations. Otherwise, if we give everything away, how can we stop there and get nothing in return? It may not be capitulation, but it would be a loss. But from the side of the Ukrainian government, the choice of words was far less ambiguous. We will not allow the second attempt to partition Ukraine. Knowing Russia, where there is a second, there will be a third. That is why we stand firm on clear Ukrainian positions. We must end the war with a dignified peace based on a clear and reliable security architecture. Our partners are ready to help us with this. But for now, an end to the war is not yet in sight.
