Mincy, a 20-year-old offensive lineman, faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault. The university emphasized its commitment to student safety, and despite several players choosing not to play, the team decided to compete in the game as scheduled.

We have one player in police custody and two players who are in stable condition after sustaining injuries. Officials said the stabbing took place at the team's football operations building Saturday morning. UAB has not yet clarified the circumstances leading up to the incident or named those involved, but Jefferson County jail records show 20-year-old offensive lineman Daniel Mincy was booked that same day on charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault. According to the university website, Mincy is a 6-foot-4-inch, 310-pound redshirt freshman who previously played at Kentucky. In a statement, UAB says its top priority remains the safety and well-being of all of its students. The alleged assault happened just before the last home game of the season for UAB, which was also senior day. Interim head coach Alex Mortenson said several players decided not to play, but the team as a whole elected to take the field.
