Two tropical systems on either side of Mexico will produce torrential rain, gusty winds and the threat of landslides and mudslides during the next day or so, as these systems impact both coasts of the country.

Two tropical systems, one on each coast of Mexico, are forecast to bring torrential rain, gusty winds, and the threat of flash flooding and mudslides. The system in the Bay of Campeche may strengthen into a tropical storm before moving ashore near Tampico, where tropical storm warnings are in effect.

Rainfall totals are expected to reach 3 to 5 inches in many areas, with some locations potentially receiving 8 to 12 inches. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely due to the risk of flooding and landslides.

Two tropical systems impacting both coasts of Mexico

Well, as we check on the tropics, flooding is going to be something they'll be watching out for in Mexico. We've got two systems, two tropical depressions, one on the western side of Central America, one also in the Bay of Campeche that may become our next tropical storm, but kind of running out of room and opportunity. So it's very close to land as you can see, and it is moving West Northwest at about 9 miles an hour. Even if it takes a little bit more of a jog to the north, keeping it over water, it is still going to be coming into Mexico, possibly as a tropical depression, even if it doesn't get the next name on the list, which is Barry. By the way, it is still going to cause torrential downpours that could lead to flash flooding and mudslides. There is a look at the system, possibly. Again, getting a name by this evening, especially if we see those winds up around 40 miles an hour, but then it does move ashore right around Tampico where we do have those tropical storm warnings in effect along the east side of Mexico. We're talking 3 to 5 inches anywhere in the yellow, but there are some areas in the even red where we could see. Anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of rainfall.
