The National Hurricane Center is still keeping a close eye on two areas to watch in the Atlantic Ocean. The area with the highest chances of development is a tropical wave that has just left Africa. This wave will continue to travel across the Atlantic as it enters a more favorable environment for development in the next few days.

Meteorologists are closely monitoring the eastern Atlantic for increased tropical activity as the region enters a more active period. Invest 97L currently has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical depression or potentially Tropical Storm Erin, with an 80% chance of formation. 

While Invest 96L remains in the middle of the ocean and is not expected to impact land, Invest 97L could bring rain and squally conditions to the Cabo Verde Islands. Authorities are continuing to track these systems for any further developments.

Tropical system could likely form this week

We do have the tropics to keep an eye on, especially now that we're going into mid-August. We tend to see more activity, especially in the far eastern Atlantic, where we do have a high chance of development with Invest 97L, Invest 96L, still keeping an eye on that as well even though it's right in the middle of the ocean and likely to stay in the middle of the ocean. Really not any impact to anybody. This one, however, could be affecting the Cabo Verde Islands with some rain, some squally weather there and then has a chance to become a depression or perhaps tropical storm Erin this upcoming week. That red area shows us the 80% chance of development.
