Tropical Storm Erin is being closely monitored by meteorologists as it moves across the Atlantic Ocean. The storm is currently several thousand miles from land and is not yet well-organized due to dry air and cooler waters. However, forecasts indicate that Erin could strengthen into the first Atlantic hurricane of the season within the coming days, with the potential to become a major hurricane later.

The future path of Erin remains uncertain, and it is too early to predict whether it will impact land. Meanwhile, significant heatwaves are affecting both the eastern and western regions of the United States, with temperatures well above normal and heat warnings in place for several cities.

Now, we got big weather issues on both sides of the U.S. It's getting very hot in the east and in the west, and we are also watching what could become the year's first Atlantic hurricane. CBS News meteorologist Rob Marciano joins us again. Rob, good morning. Hey, good morning, Nate. Yeah, tropical storm Aaron way out there in the Atlantic Ocean. Let's show it to you. Really about 3,000, 4,000 miles away. So we've got some time here. Doesn't look that organized right now. It's got some dry air. It's got some cooler water to contend with. So it's gonna take some time before it strengthens, but we do think it's gonna become our first hurricane of the season, and we'll probably do that by late tomorrow into Thursday morning, and then accelerate. It's going at 22 miles an hour right now, actually, pretty fast, but intensify to potentially a major hurricane by the time Saturday, Sunday rolls around. Where does it go from there? All right, we have the subtropical high that's always in place, kind of waffles around during the summertime. We think there's gonna be some weakness in here as we go through time, and maybe there's an escape route to where it returns out to sea, but this is way out there, way too far ahead to make that call, so we have to watch it carefully. And you know what? We're just getting into the peak of hurricane season, so this is a great time, if you live on the East Coast especially, to at least prepare your home for the potential of storms coming, because there will be more storms coming if Aaron doesn't make it all the way here. Meantime, we've got some heat that's building across much of the Northeast, way above normal temperatures today. Humidity's beginning to build today and tomorrow. It will start to feel like summertime again, and a few records will be buried within here as well, and the heat continues in the West. Extreme heat for parts of Phoenix, where warnings are still up, and that's been spreading up to parts of the Northwest as well. 100 plus degrees in Medford and Reading, and Reno, Vegas, and Phoenix, well above average as well.
