Topless and muddy in front of the Italian Senate. This was just one of the climate demonstrations that took place across Europe on Tuesday. In Rome, last generation environmental activists covered themselves in mud to protest fossil fuels and the consequences of climate change. The demonstration follows the catastrophic floods in the northern Emilia-Romagna region, which protesters consider a disaster foretold. Protesters in London also tried to storm the stage and caused disruption at the annual shareholder meeting of oil giant Shell. Activists say the hypocrisy is unacceptable. Shell is continuing to drill new oil and gas fields here in the UK and around the world and some of the most biodiverse regions in the Philippines and in the Niger Delta. Despite their own internal scenarios saying that continuing new oil and gas expansion will push us off a 1.5 degree cliff, which will just push us more towards extinction and climate catastrophe. And in Switzerland, dozens of climate activists broke onto a runway at Geneva airport, briefly disrupting air traffic and blocking a nearby business jet convention. Around a dozen police officers intervened to remove them, including some who had attached themselves to planes.

For the first time, Amnesty International has accused Hamas and its allies of committing crimes against humanity, following an investigation into the 7 October 2023 attacks on Israel. The organization found that 1,221 people were killed and said the mass killing of civilians amounted to extermination.
