For the second straight day, there was a major escalation in the strike against one of Detroit's Big Three automakers. On Tuesday, more than 5,000 workers at Arlington Assembly in Texas joined the strike, essentially shutting down General Motors' largest plant.

The United Auto Workers is expanding their strike yet again. 5,000 workers at a GM plant in Arlington, Texas walking off the job this morning. This comes after General Motors announced just how much this strike is affecting their profits. National correspondent Mara Sirianni is in the newsroom with these details. Hey, Mara. Yeah, the strike taking out a second plant, Jay, in just two days. So this expanded strike that we're talking about, developments this morning, this one happening in Arlington, Texas, the Arlington Assembly Plant there, which makes some of GM's most profitable and popular vehicles, including the Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade. This comes just hours after we told you that GM said the strike has cost them $800 million in lost vehicle production and says it will continue to lose an estimated $200 million every week. This thing continues. Now, this is the second major expansion, like I just said, in just two days. On Monday, you had 6,800 workers at the Stellantis Assembly Plant there in Sterling Heights, Michigan. They were instructed by union leaders to walk off the job. That was, again, Monday afternoon. Now, that plant makes the best-selling Ram 1500 pickup trucks, a really big moneymaker for Stellantis. The union targeted that plant because it says Stellantis has the, quote, worst proposal on the table regarding wage progression, temporary worker pay, and conversion to full-time cost-of-living adjustments and more. So, Stellantis responded to that yesterday, saying, quote, we are outraged that the UAW has chosen to expand its strike action against Stellantis following multiple conversations that appear to be productive. They say we left the bargaining table expecting a counterproposal, but have been waiting for one ever since. So, this brings the total number of striking UAW workers to 45,000. This morning, it was only 40. Now, you've got 5,000 more in Texas walking off the job in at least 22 states. This latest walkout putting mounting pressure, of course, on the big three automakers to reach a deal with the union members. Walkouts this week marked the biggest escalation since you saw workers in Kentucky walking off the job at a Ford truck plant. That was about two weeks ago on a random Wednesday night. That, again, part of the surprise walkouts that we can expect here. Now, at this point, Ford has said that it's offered workers all that it possibly can. But earlier, we spoke to the local president of that union, which represents about 12,000 workers in the Louisville area. Here he is. Ford Motor Company has brought back several proposals. The last couple of proposals they brought back, or counteroffers, have been offers that are going to be historic because we have been so far behind all these years. And so, of course, you have the big three saying that what they're offering these workers is fair, but you have the union workers fighting back. Even though they're only making $500 a week as part of the strike deal, you know, fighting for what they say they deserve, they're going to stay on the picket lines until they can see this thing through, Jay.
