We were just a few kilometres from the border with Cambodia on a trip organised by the Thai military to see the damage from recent artillery attacks. When all of a sudden we're running. An artillery duel has broken out between the two sides. Suddenly there's just been a very large barrage that we've heard and that's why we're now running. The military tells us the Cambodians have just launched a rocket attack and they're also afraid of the threat of drones. The reason why we're taking cover at the moment is that there seems to be a warning from the military command here of attack drones in this area. This barrage seems to be an artillery duel across the border between Thai and Cambodian artillery and the military that we're with are telling us that when you hear these multiple explosions like this it is probably Cambodian rocket artillery. These daily exchanges have forced 80% of the people here to leave. I'm overseeing the volunteer defence groups to stop any looting and also to take care of any animals that the villagers have left behind. All along this border area you hear the constant bangs and thuds of artillery between the two sides. Most of what comes from Cambodia are multiple rockets. Not very accurate but still destructive and potentially lethal as the Thai military have been keen to show us on this trip. So this happened this morning. Later in the day we are taken to where one of the rockets from the earlier barrage had landed.
