Members of a Facebook group have joined the effort, collecting and preserving personal items found along the river with the hope of returning them to their owners.

Authorities, including the Kerrville Police and Comfort Fire Department, are committed to ongoing search and rescue operations. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for a special legislative session to review flood warning systems and disaster response. Volunteers emphasize the importance of reuniting families with their treasured possessions, as many have lost everything in the disaster.

Kerrville is still a small, close knit community and I think that everyone who lives here knows somebody who has been affected. Kerrville Police Sergeant Jonathan Lamb says his officers will search for as long as it takes to find the missing. But there are still questions about whether more could have been done to alert residents. Why haven't officials been giving us direct answers about these emergency alerts? Yeah, again, I would just say that there's going to be a full and complete review of all of the processes and procedures around this event and the special legislative session is going to be the first steps. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for the special legislative session reviewing flood warning systems, natural disaster preparation and relief funding. Search and rescue teams have spent nearly a week working in brutal conditions. We heard from Captain Eric Craycroft of the Comfort Fire Department. Long, hot, nasty days and it's just getting through these brush piles. I mean, I've been in some piles that are the size of school buses. They're big, they're massive and they're everywhere. And among the destruction and debris are remnants of people's lives. Some people have lost everything way more than we can even imagine. Donde Persign is organizing volunteers to gather personal items found along the river to preserve these battered treasures. As we get items, we take them, we wash them, we collect them, we document them, preserve them and then get pictures and make sure that we do our best to reunite. We really want to take, take extra care because this could be somebody's special thing, right? Like this could be their last thing that they have. The boy in this photo did survive.
