A Sydney student who survived after a tree crashed onto her car has opened up  about her ordeal. 19-year-old Jess Da Silva has been reunited with the first responders who rescued her from the crushed vehicle.

Jess De Silva, a 19-year-old university student, survived a severe accident in Croydon Park, Sydney, when a 30-tonne gum tree fell and crushed her car during a sudden storm. Emergency responders spent an hour rescuing her, and she was discharged from the hospital with only minor injuries. 

Jess was reunited with the paramedics and firefighters who saved her, expressing gratitude for their efforts. Her recovery is ongoing, with plans to return to driving in the future, supported by her family, friends, and counselling.

The 19-year-old uni student was waiting in traffic when her car was crushed in Croydon Park by an uprooted 30-tonne gum during a snap storm last month and by what can only be described as... It's just a miracle. It's a great news story. Jess lives to tell the tale, discharged from hospital with just a few stitches. I didn't have a lot of hope when I actually drove up to the scene and ran through. So this horrific situation with the best outcome. Today reunited with the men who saved her. Intensive care paramedic Scott never left her side. While his cousin, Fiery Maxie, cut her free. An hour of cutting away at the car, stabilising the tree and the car. Until we actually made that gap to get her out of the car, that was the first time I actually saw her. My role was pretty much just to hold Jess's hand and be like the safety person for Jess in the car. We can teach her everything about saving lives and the medical skills but to interact with people and have that humanistic touch, that's the bit that sets it apart. I just heard their voices so it's nice to see their faces and their voices and say thank you personally. It's a picture perfect, heartwarming moment in what could have been a tragic tale. But this isn't the end. The next chapter, getting Jess back behind the wheel. It will take a long time, it's just the healing process. And I guess with her family and friends beside her and look, she will need some counselling as well. Hopefully to get back on the road next year, not too soon.
