Authorities report that the suspect has a history of mental illness. The identities of the victims have not been released, and police are continuing to search for a motive. The area was heavily trafficked at the time due to back-to-school shopping, increasing the impact on the local community.

Investigators say he has a history of mental illness. CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranco joins us now from Austin, essentially at the crime scene. Good morning, Omar. How did this unfold? Good morning, Errol. Let me kind of break this down. It happened just after 2 p.m. yesterday at this Target parking lot behind me. Around 2.15, an officer's got a call of a shots fired. They showed up in around four minutes, and they found three victims. As you mentioned, two adults and one child. Now, we are told that they spotted the suspect in the parking lot, and that's when he carjacked a car and drove off. During that chase, he crashed about a mile and a half away from here, jumped into another car, carjacked that one, drove away, crashed out, was out of the vehicle, and that's when officers got near him, were able to tase him and bring him into custody. We mentioned that the suspect may have a history of mental illness, but what do we know about the victims? We don't know much, but let me give you the situation here in Texas right now. This is the peak of back-to-school shopping. We had tax-free weekend last weekend, but a lot of the schools start classes this week, not only here in the Austin area, but across the state of Texas. So all these stores, these Targets, these Walmarts, other places like that are busy with people doing last-minute shopping, and that's why this place was very packed. You still see a bunch of these cars behind me. A lot of these were here, and it was taped off right after the shooting, so people couldn't come to get them. They finally released them last night about 10 p.m. We're expecting people who were here to come get their cars later on this morning. So, a very scary scene for folks who were shopping here.
