The U.S autoworkers union announced a tentative agreement with Ford, a breakthrough in a 41-day stoppage on Detroit's "Big Three" car manufacturers. The deal, which rank-and-file workers must still approve in a vote, includes a 25 percent wage increase for hourly employees, the United Auto Workers union said.

It's a historic day for these Ford workers. Outside the automaker's Michigan assembly plant they stand ecstatic and emotional after a deal was struck between their union and employer. This is my first strike but I put in a lot of time and effort with Ford so I'm just really excited that it's going to work out for everybody. Ford is one of the US's big three automakers who have been targeted by the United Auto Workers strike since mid-September after failing to reach a contract agreement for the next four years. The new deal not only comes with an immediate 11% wage increase for all union members but will give workers a 25% increase by the end of the contract. It also includes an additional cost of living raise which will raise that rate to over 30%. This means top wage earners will reach $40 per hour. But it has yet to be approved by 57,000 union members at the company and only concerns Ford for now. Union leaders are hopeful that having Ford go back to full working capacity will force its competitors to also strike a deal as soon as possible. We're going back to work at Ford to keep the pressure on Stellantis and GM. The last thing they want is for Ford to get back to full capacity while they mess around and lag behind. The union's National Council for Ford will vote on Sunday on whether to send the agreement to the membership for approval.
