Sonny, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was missing for two days after his family's Melbourne home was broken into and ransacked. The family launched a neighbourhood search and posted flyers, fearing Sonny had been stolen for illegal purposes. 

Detectives found security footage showing a burglar leaving the house with Sonny chasing behind. A local resident later found Sonny in her backyard and, after seeing a missing poster, returned him to his family. The family stated that Sonny's return was more important than any stolen property.

It's been a tough two days, but Sonny the Staffy is finally home. Oh boy, oh boy. Sam Sinetti returned to his Preston home at 9.30 on Saturday night to find his front door smashed, his house ransacked and five-year-old Sonny missing. The lights were all on, the front door was wide open, the house was trashed. His family plastered the neighbourhood with posters, fearing their beloved pup was destined for a dog fighting ring. This morning they made an emotional plea for Sonny's return. We're not sure if he was taken, we're not sure if he's escaped and now a member of our family is missing. No human being should ever touch another person's dog. Detectives canvassed the streets searching for any sign of a potential dog napper, instead uncovering security vision of a burglar leaving the family home with Super Sonny hot at his heels. Then came a phone call, their fur baby had been found. Good boy. I can't explain this, this is like a son come back. They had kidnapped a son and he's come back. Have a look at him. The good Samaritan that found Sonny did not want to go on camera. She said he wandered into her backyard yesterday. She'd been taking him door to door in the neighbourhood to look for his owner and that's when she found the missing poster. Sam is yet to work out what was stolen during the home invasion but at this stage it doesn't matter. And I don't care what he took really, now that I've got him back that's it. We'll never lose him again for as long as we live. For now it's home for a sleep and a stake for the goodest of good boys. Abbey Dinnam, 10 News.
