Over the past few months, this island has become essentially a forward operating base for U.S. forces as tensions mount over Venezuela. We visited a place called the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station. You probably haven't heard of it. It was shut down in 2004, fully operational now. It's now hosting a squadron of 10 F-35 stealth fighter jets, considered America's most advanced fighter jet. Locals say these things are taken off pretty much every day, 3 o'clock in the morning, 5 o'clock in the morning. Elsewhere on the island, thousands of U.S. troops and equipment, including the Reaper drone, thought to be responsible for these boat strikes, which have killed at least 80 people that we know of. Trump administration not providing any evidence of who was on board or what they were carrying, which has drawn international condemnation. Here on the island, opinions are split. Some say the island is a safer place, having U.S. military presence here. Others are worried about antagonizing their neighbors. One thing is for certain, more U.S. troops are on the way. Jerica.
