Hundreds of residents have had to evacuate from this province as it grapples with exceptionally high temperatures. Turkey recorded its hottest July in 55 years, with a record 50.5 degrees Celsius reached by the end of the month. It's a similar situation in Greece, where violent winds are making matters worse. They've disrupted ferry traffic, forcing boats to remain docked in Piraeus, near Athens. Just a few dozen kilometres away, the landscape has been turned to ash, with some residents forced to watch their houses burn down. Honestly, I don't even know what to say. I am completely distraught. We live in fear. It is a truly desperate situation and it's not just me, it's the whole neighbourhood. Aside Turkey and Greece, most of southern Europe is suffocating. Parts of Spain have experienced temperatures of up to 44 degrees Celsius. It comes as the country has already recorded over a thousand heat-related deaths since mid-May, more than a 50% increase compared to 2024.
