Army cadets are taking to the skies in South Australia for a first of its kind drone racing program. It's a pretty big deal for us down in South Australia, especially for the cadets. This is the first drone racing unit in cadets. Cadets taking part in the cutting edge unit design and build the drones themselves, pushing teamwork, precision and speed to the limit. These ones can go around 200km an hour, so pretty quick and they can get to that in less than a second. They're just phenomenal and the fact that they build them themselves and program them, it blows my mind. And it's more than just flying fast for these young pilots, it's also about soaring into a new era of army cadet training with skills that could shape their future. It opens up opportunities in the future if they wanted to go into aerospace or something like that. It brings that different element and extends them in areas where they're amazing in what they can achieve and do. They make it look simple, but trust me, flying one of these drones isn't as easy as it looks. In fact, it takes hours of training just to master the controls. People that play video games, it definitely helps because they've got those connections between their mind and their fingers. Well, their training could also be put to use in the real world sooner than you'd think. I definitely see drones being used for more civil uses such as parcel delivery, so I'm starting to see a lot of that. Jace Kemp, Ten News.
