Northeastern United States

A weather system is set to impact the Northeastern United States, bringing snow to major cities and surrounding areas. Precipitation will begin as rain in some locations, particularly along the I-95 corridor, before changing to snow late at night and into the next morning. 

Snowfall amounts are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches in most areas, with some regions in New Jersey and eastern Long Island potentially seeing up to 5 inches. Blustery winds and continued lake effect snow are also anticipated for interior sections of the Northeast.

Today the clouds just increase and thicken and we don't get our precip until much later on tonight. However, it starts earlier for us from Happy Valley State College back towards Pittsburgh, Elkins and Wheeling, West Virginia. The snow is going to be moving through during the afternoon time frame and then eventually we'll see the rain actually reach the 95 corridor. So it starts as rain along the Long Island Expressway down into Jersey, but then eventually we'll switch it over to snow right around 11 o'clock midnight tonight and then tomorrow morning you are looking at the snow coming down for breakfast and heading out to brunch. The snow moves offshore and we still have the blustery windy conditions that will continue that lake effect snow for the interior sections of the northeast. So again, we are going to be seeing a pretty healthy snowfall for some of us. You got one to three in that lighter shade of blue, but there are some areas that could see as much as three to five in portions of New Jersey, even the east end of Long Island and one to two inches on the way. This again is going to be later on tonight into tomorrow morning because here too from Baltimore down to the Beltway in DC it does start off as rain and then eventually we switch it over. Maybe some sleep pellets coming on down and then it's a snowy situation.
