The extreme weather has led to widespread travel disruptions, flight cancellations, and multiple fatalities in traffic accidents across France, with similar incidents reported in other countries such as Romania.

Authorities have issued warnings urging people to stay off the roads and, where possible, work from home. Scientists and police are cautioning drivers about the dangers of black ice, while extreme weather warnings remain in place across much of Europe as the cold snap continues.

This is the iconic Montmartre hill in Paris, rarely seen like this, buried under snow. Europe is facing its harshest cold snap in a while, and France, not known for widespread snowfall, is taking a direct hit. Flights have been cancelled, and traffic disrupted nationwide. Snow and ice have made roads treacherous, with multiple fatalities reported in traffic accidents across the country. French authorities are urging people to stay off the roads. Subject to confirmation of weather forecasts and local conditions, users, particularly in the Paris region, are advised to postpone their journey's planned for tomorrow morning where possible, and with their employer's agreement, prioritise working from home. The warning comes as the icy weather spreads well beyond Paris. In south-west France, a coach skidded, killing at least two people. Similar accidents are being reported across the country. And this isn't just happening in Western Europe. This is Romania, where residents are grappling with sudden, extreme shifts in weather. We had spring temperatures last year on the same day. This year, it's not the same. Scientists warn of black ice, thin, nearly invisible, and extremely dangerous for driving, forming when moisture freezes on road surfaces. Police are urging drivers to prepare their vehicles accordingly. Back in France, the cold has reached even Brittany, a coastal region better known for mild winters and summer breezes. Especially here in Brittany, we're not used to seeing all this, but it's nice, actually. It's a bit of a change, and with this weather and a bit of sunshine, it feels good. With extreme weather warnings in place across many parts of Europe, some journeys today are simply not worth taking.
