The storm system that's ben pushing across the middle of the U.S. will bring heightened risks to Arkansas, Missouri and surrounding areas on Oct. 18.

Meteorologists are monitoring a developing severe weather system in the central United States. Warm temperatures and atmospheric instability are fueling thunderstorms, with the greatest risk for damaging winds, hail, and flash flooding. The most significant threat is expected in northern Arkansas, southeast Missouri, and nearby regions, where a moderate risk level has been issued. While some areas in the northeast are forecast to have favorable weather, the same system may bring impacts to the Ohio Valley and northeastern states as it moves eastward.

Severe weather threat ramps up in the central U.S. on Saturday

heavy showers, a couple of rumbles of thunder. That's about it with this one. But we'll see more in the hours to come a little farther south and west. And there is a lot of warmth and instability to fuel these storms. So temperatures are still way up there. 88 in Dallas, 89 degrees in Lubbock, Texas. Very warm to the east, still 64 in D. C. We're gonna be watching the warmth expand a little bit more to the east, but it's the central U. S. Where the core of this is. So the thunderstorms spotty right now, they're basically in the northwestern edge of our yellow zone. So as the disturbance moves farther east, we will see a little more activity in this area all the way down into northern parts of Oklahoma this evening and tonight hail damaging wind and flash flooding. But the bigger risk for severe storms comes in on Saturday. This would be driving some gusty winds in many areas in advance of this would be warm and delightfully nice here. More like early September weather in Nashville for the L. S. U. Vanderbilt game. Ole Miss of Georgia late afternoon looking good, still dry here. We don't need to be worried about storms in those areas during the day tomorrow, but we will farther west. So we watching for some gusty wind producing thunderstorms into parts of Arkansas, southern Missouri Saturday and then into the Ohio Valley as well. And the greatest threat here is going to be damaging wind. Moderate risk. That's two out of four on the Accuweather Threat Level Index. Northern Arkansas, southeast Missouri and into areas just east of the river. But wind is the main concern here at there could be isolated tornadoes, some cases with flash flooding and some hail as well. But in the northeast, we have a great Saturday and then a slightly more questionable Sunday, depending on where you live. Yeah, the same storm system. It's going to bring impacts for the Ohio Valley and the northeast as well.

The Trump administration is awaiting word from the Supreme Court after asking it to allow the immediate deployment of National Guard troops to Illinois to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. A lower court blocked the move.
