Rounds of severe storms are possible during the next few days from the Plains to the Midwest. Places like Kansas City, Des Moines and LaCrosse could see strong to severe storms through the day. Damaging winds and hail are the primary threats, however, we can’t rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado.

A broad area stretching from the High Plains of Colorado through Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, and into Michigan is under a severe weather outlook. Cities such as Kansas City, Des Moines, and LaCrosse are among those at risk for strong to severe storms.

The primary threats from these storms are damaging winds and hail, though there is also a lower risk of isolated tornadoes. Storm activity is expected to continue through the day and into the evening, affecting regions including Green Bay and Springfield, and may persist into the following morning in some areas.

Severe storms possible from Plains to Midwest

Here's the outlook for today, and it includes places like Kansas City, Des Moines, up through central Wisconsin, the UP of Michigan, Northern Kansas, back into the High Plains of Colorado. A lot of real estate covered by our severe weather outlook, and all hazards are possible. I think the really ones we have to watch out for especially are gonna be the wind and the hail, but there is a lower end tornado threat too. Kansas City, here we go, next couple of hours, we have more rain and storms rumbling through your area. Once that fizzles, it really gives way to afternoon, daytime heating, those peak heating hours of the day where we see thunderstorms start to bubble up over north central parts of Iowa into areas like Wisconsin, all of that moving to the east. So Green Bay, the timeframe for you is gonna be more towards the evening. So seven, eight o'clock in the evening, more storms down towards Springfield, and then you see the storms firing up in the High Plains of Colorado and pushing into the east into parts of Kansas where that's only going to continue through the overnight hours, and that line extends up into Nebraska. So very likely, much like this morning, we're still gonna be watching storms as we start off Monday morning.
