An unsettled weather pattern is setting up as scattered severe storms will be possible across the Plains and Midwest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. First, a line of storms will develop along a cold front in Iowa Thursday afternoon and then move into Wisconsin Thursday night.w

A line of severe storms is forecast to develop along a cold front in Iowa, moving into Wisconsin and potentially affecting areas near Des Moines, Waterloo, Fort Dodge, Mason City, and Madison. The risk of tornadoes is elevated, with tour con values reaching up to three out of ten, indicating a moderate tornado threat. Hail and damaging winds are also possible as the storms progress eastward, potentially reaching Kansas City and Oklahoma City. 

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue, with the threat shifting to the Dakotas and another system moving through later. Despite the presence of a cold front, temperatures are likely to remain above average, and jet stream winds may further intensify the thunderstorms and severe weather risks.

Severe storms, heavy rain take aim at Plains, Midwest

Today we could be looking at a severe component breakdown just north and east of Des Moines. So we'll kind of take a look at this entire zone where more storms could fire off. But this area near Waterloo, near Fort Dodge, up into Mason City and even stretches closer to Madison, Wisconsin. You guys are gonna be on the borderline of two and three tour con values again. That's a three out of 10. That greater number basically means a greater risk for tornado chances. So we had a couple of tornado reports yesterday in southern Minnesota. We'll be looking at this zone yet again. Fire off today into the afternoon. All the morning showers will push up towards the Twin Cities later today. But watch what happens. See how everything kind of builds here along that line this afternoon. That's gonna be the line of potency that we watch and then that will drift right into this area where we could be looking at rotation. We also have a hail threat and then a damaging wind threat. And then those storms that eventually fire off that line will race eastward. So Des Moines all the way down. We'll see how far it gets as it maybe approach Kansas City as we head into late tonight. We'll have to see. Notice Oklahoma City. You guys are looking at some storms down there across I-40. So there's a big zone here where we have lift and we have a lot of weather that could take place. And then Reynolds tomorrow. Everything kind of shifts over the Dakotas where we have the severe weather kind of moving along this ridge. So here we go into our Saturday. We do have our next system coming through because we have one that comes through really kind of today into tomorrow. Then we have Saturday and this system again. You see that we have a cold front, but don't let that fool you. We are not going to get into cold air. It basically is just flat above average even at times. But we do have some jet stream winds that are going to help increase these thunderstorms, severe threat.
