Some of the same areas struck by flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal less than a week ago are facing another day of severe storms on July 10.

The Southeast United States is experiencing another period of severe weather, with a storm zone extending from Delaware to Georgia, primarily affecting coastal regions. This area, which includes Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia, faces threats of large hail, damaging winds, flooding rainfall, and an increased risk of tornadoes.

Forecasts indicate that the most intense storms are expected in parts of South Carolina, with sporadic and scattered storms carrying a higher potential for hail and heavy rainfall compared to previous weather events. The severity of the storms is expected to decrease overnight as the system moves offshore, though some showers and storms may persist into the early morning hours.

You can see this bullseye, however, is going to include areas of Virginia, the Carolinas and parts of Georgia as well. And these storms that form in this highlighted region will be capable producing large hail, damaging winds, flooding rainfall. And yes, there's even gonna be an elevated risk of tornadoes across this region as well. But probably it looks like a flooding rainfall and strong wind threat here as we had throughout this evening and tonight. Future track radar is showing that by eight p.m. local time, eastern time, the highest potential storms is gonna be right across parts of Columbia, South Carolina. You can see that cluster of storms there in that elevated region, that level two zone of severe weather here across parts of the East Coast. After that, as we had in the evening and then overnight hours, I'm stopping the clock here at 10 p.m. Widespread showers and storms. The big difference between today's severe weather threat and what we were tracking yesterday. Yesterday we were tracking just a long line of severe weather, hundreds of miles of severe weather. Today, this afternoon, this evening, most of these storms are gonna be more sporadic and scattered in nature. But those scattered storms also carry with them a larger potential of hail, producing large hail and heavy rainfall than what we were tracking with that line of storms from yesterday. Heading into the overnight hours, we're still gonna be watching out for some scattered showers and storms. But overall, right around 1 to 2 a.m. we have a storm near Raleigh. But after that, the overall intensity of these storms really comes down as a bulk of the storms, the strong storms work their way well offshore here as we end to the overnight hours and into early parts of your Friday morning. And then after that, we'll just see a cloudy start there for your early Friday morning before more storms develop off to the west. Stay right here with IQ weather ahead.
