The CBC's Benit Braich joins us with more of the details. And Benit, this is such a popular tourist attraction. What more do we know about this crash? Really, it's a tragic incident that's happened here, right, Lindsay? So this, what we understand is that Global Affairs Canada says two of these passenger rails collided head-on on Tuesday in Peru. And you can kind of see some of the aftermath here. About 20 ambulances were here. People were trying to escape these trains. Some of them were being treated on the side of these train tracks as well. We know that the driver of one of these trains was killed. Forty, roughly 40 injuries, about half of them on the more serious side. When it comes to Canadians, today we heard from Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Nunn, who said that seven Canadians were injured. We don't exactly know the extent of their injuries, but she had released a statement today and said that she feels very saddened about what has happened, that Canadian officials here are working with local authorities in Peru to address what has happened. We don't know a whole lot about who has been affected. They're not releasing those details out of privacy as well. So did this actually happen as the train was going to Machu Picchu? Yeah, so this is a railway that heads to the Inca Citadel. And that's one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It's very popular among tourists. About a million tourists visit this area a year. And so clearly a well sought after place, right? And we also know that this isn't the first time something like this has happened. So we were looking at media reports, local media from Peru there, and they said that in 2018, a similar incident happened where two trains again collided that they say were the same operators at the time. And that led to about 15 injuries then. So something similar has happened before. BBC is also reporting that there's about hundreds of tourists who are still trying to evacuate from this area because it's challenging right now with the state of what's happened. The train is kind of difficult there as well. So a lot of details were still following up on here.
