Thomas Sewell appeared in a Melbourne court after being charged with violent disorder, affray, and other offences related to an alleged attack on an Indigenous site following a rally. Prosecutors argued that Sewell, described as the leader of the group involved, should not be granted bail due to the seriousness and frequency of the alleged offences, as well as his past conduct.

The prosecution referenced previous incidents, including Sewell's interruption of a press conference, and alleged he is part of a racially motivated organisation. The defence rejected claims of racially motivated ideology, stating there was no evidence presented to the court. The judge adjourned the bail decision, and supporters delivered books to Sewell in custody after the hearing.

Thomas Sewell was arrested yesterday outside Melbourne Magistrates Court, charged with violent disorder, affray and discharging a missile, among other offences. Today a prosecutor argued the self-proclaimed leader shouldn't be granted bail. He has a propensity to offend in a violent way and the nature and seriousness of alleged offending and frequency to which it's allegedly occurred elevates the level of risk. The prosecution also drew on previous incidents including when Mr Sewell yesterday gate crashed the Premier's press conference where he accused Jacinta Allen of denying Victorians the right to protest. The accused certainly doesn't need to prove anything. The accused is a member of a racially motivated organisation using ideology to conduct violence. But the defence rejected the allegations there is no evidence presented to the court of that or the extent to which the racially motivated ideology is offensive. Thomas Sewell sat emotionless in the courtroom with little to no expression responding only when asked by the judge if he was facing any custody issues to which he responded can I request a book the judge telling Mr Sewell she would make note of it. His supporters delivered several books to custody services after the hearing. A decision on Mr Sewell's bail application was adjourned until Friday. Jessica Maggio 10 News.
