Minori Grone, a sophomore at San Diego High School, has taken a leadership role in supporting homeless and low-income families in her community. She founded the Community Outreach Club and serves as CEO of the PATH Interscholastic Leadership Team, a student-run nonprofit focused on aiding the homeless.

Her initiatives include organizing food drives, care kits, gift-giving, and dinner services for those in need. Grone's efforts have earned her recognition from ABC 10 News and Lead San Diego, who awarded her their Leadership Award for January.

A 16-year-old San Diego high student understands the challenges that come with homelessness. She says it can happen to anyone and she's now playing a critical role and making sure people affected by it get the support they need. ABC 10 News anchor Max Goldwasser shows us the students commitment to the community in this positively San Diego story. She's only a sophomore here at San Diego High School but already a leader of her peers and in the local community. A student standout assisting the unsheltered. We have a lot of families experiencing homelessness and are low income so we just want to provide a little bit of happiness. A little goes a long way. Minori Grone making sure parents at the McGill School of Success in South Park had one less thing to worry about this holiday season. It's either put foot on the table or get a gift and so this definitely is a blessing in disguise so we really appreciate her contribution. This donation drop-off made possible through the Community Outreach Club Minori founded last year. A partner of the PATH Interscholastic Leadership Team or PILT. It's a local K through 12 student-run nonprofit that helps the homeless. Oh yeah, Minori's the CEO of that too. In homelessness the issue isn't just not having a home, it's not having the support that you need and that's normally how homelessness starts. The support comes in many forms, food drives, care kits, gift-giving, and three times a year a dinner service for about 80 people. As we hand out food you'll just see the appreciation in their eyes, especially that the students are very young and it's exciting to see the next generation wanting to help out. And for the older generations, safe to say, they're impressed. I think of myself when I was a sophomore, I wasn't doing this, but thank God she is. Max Goldwasser, ABC 10 News.
