Rwanda has announced its support for former foreign minister Louise Moshiki-Wabo to serve a third term as secretary general of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), a body that promotes cooperation among French-speaking countries. Moshiki-Wabo has led the OIF since 2019, overseeing reforms credited with strengthening the organisation's political and operational effectiveness.

The nomination comes ten months before the next OIF summit, to be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. If re-elected, Moshiki-Wabo would become only the second person to serve three terms as secretary general, following former Senegalese President Abdou Diouf.

Last November, on the sidelines of an OIF conference, Moshiki-Wabo said several countries had already approached her asking her to run again. If re-elected, she will join former Senegalese President Abdiou Diouf as the only secretary general to have served three terms.
