Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that at least six people were killed in the overnight attacks, which also affected cities such as Zaporizhia and Ismail. The escalation comes as diplomatic efforts stall, with U.S. President Donald Trump delaying a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing Moscow's opposition to an immediate ceasefire. Zelensky reiterated the need for continued sanctions and military support from Ukraine's allies.

Russian strike hits Kharkiv kindergarten

Russian forces attacked Ukraine's Kharkiv Wednesday morning, striking and setting ablaze a kindergarten with children inside. Both rescuers and civilians rushed to evacuate the children from the building. While all of them were evacuated safely, the strike did claim the life of one other person and wounded six others. It comes just hours after Russia launched yet another large-scale missile and drone attack at Ukraine overnight into Wednesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack killed at least six people. He added that Moscow primarily targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, but that the attack also struck residential buildings and sparked several fires. Two people were killed in the Dnipro district in the capital, Kyiv, and three others, including two children, were killed in the wider Kyiv region after a strike hit a private home. The large-scale overnight aerial attack also targeted other cities in Ukraine, including Zaporizhia and the port city of Ismail in the southern Odessa region. Just one day prior to the attacks, U.S. President Donald Trump announced he would delay his meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Trump said he did not want it to be a, quote, waste of time as Russia's Foreign Secretary Sergey Lavrov made it clear Moscow is opposed to an immediate ceasefire. In response, Zelensky once again reminded his allies that Russia can only be pressured through sanctions and long-range strike capabilities.
