The collapse, occurring at a prominent entertainment venue, resulted in a scene of devastation as the roof gave way over a crowded floor. Among the deceased were famed Dominican merengue singer Ruby Paris and former Major League Baseball players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco. Dotel began his MLB career with the New York Mets in 1999, and the team observed a moment of silence in his honor. 

Rescue operations have been conducted tirelessly as authorities sift through the remains of the single-story building to find any survivors. Many families, including one father searching for news of his 18-year-old daughter, await word on their loved ones amidst challenging circumstances. Officials report that at least 150 people suffered injuries due to the collapse. A tragic aspect of this incident was the loss of Nelsy Cruz, the sister of MLB All-Star Nelson Cruz and a local political figure, who tragically passed away after reaching out for help while trapped under the debris. 

In response to the tragedy, the MLB commissioner emphasized the profound ties between the sport and the Dominican Republic, expressing solidarity with Dominican players and fans. Investigations into the cause of the roof collapse are anticipated, with the club owner stating his intent to cooperate fully. Currently, the priority lies with ongoing search and rescue operations, and no determination has been made regarding the collapse's cause.

Yeah, what started as a fun night of music at an iconic nightclub in Santo Domingo quickly turned into horror when the roof caved in early on Tuesday morning on top of hundreds of people. Rescuers have spent hours searching through the rubble of the one story building desperately trying to get to any survivors. This father, like so many others, was waiting on information about his 18 year old daughter. Officials say dozens were killed and many more were injured. Among those who died was beloved Dominican merengue singer Ruby Paris, who was performing on stage when the roof collapsed. Former MLB players Octavio Dottel and Tony Blanco also died. Dottel started his career with the New York Mets in 1999. The team held a moment of silence for him last night. Nelsy Cruz, the sister of former MLB All Star Nelson Cruz and a local politician, was another victim of the tragedy. Cruz called the country's president while still trapped under the debris, according to the first lady. She later died in a hospital. In a statement, the MLB commissioner said, in part, the connection between baseball and the Dominican Republic runs deep, and we are thinking of all the Dominican players and fans across the game today. The nightclub owner says he has cooperating with any investigation or willing to cooperate with any investigation that may be ongoing. Officials say that right now they are focusing on the search and rescue efforts. It's still not known what caused the collapse.
