Residents along the Fox River are trying to stay dry as flooding submerges backyards and roadways.

The recent storm caused water levels to rise higher than previously recorded, submerging playgrounds, streets, and backyards. Some residents experienced water entering their homes, though major damage was limited for many. Community members have been taking precautions such as placing sandbags and clearing water from properties, and there is cautious optimism that the rain has subsided and the situation will improve.

We've been hearing a lot of this in southeast Wisconsin. The splash of a historic flood that has hit home for many in the Milwaukee area and beyond. I'm Merrill Hubbard at the Fox River in Waukesha to talk about how residents are affected by these floods. We've never seen it up this high. You know, we walked into the park last night and the water was way higher than we've ever seen it. A playground that has turned into more of a waterpark. Drains that can't keep up and a stream that has spilled out far beyond its path is what residents in Waukesha are seeing. After Saturday evening storm just went around batting down the hatches and put things away and the rain just didn't stop. Richard Oaks has been living in his home near the Fox River for eight years and has seen flooding in this area before. Other than having to clear water out of his workshop, he says he feels lucky they didn't have major damage. But a couple neighbors up the street had a couple of inches water in the stream. You know, along the river here, a lot of the backyards will just get completely submerged. Backyards and front streets facing the river have gone underwater. There was no water in the street at all when we went to bed and woke up and it's all of this. Dominic Denzo has been placing sandbags along his house all morning. You live near a river and there's not a whole lot of shock if it comes up. The Fox River is at a moderate flood stage and residents hope the worst of the flood is over cautiously optimistic that the rain is is is gone now reporting in Waukesha. Merrill Hubbard, TMJ 4 News.
