The report also notes that 69 journalists were killed in the Middle East and over 550 remain imprisoned globally. In Africa, nine media workers lost their lives, with Sudan accounting for six of those deaths. The IFJ highlights the high number of imprisoned journalists as a significant ongoing concern.
