Netanyahu has been meeting with advisors to discuss strategies in Gaza following the breakdown of ceasefire talks with Hamas. The Prime Minister is seeking approval from his security cabinet for the new plan, despite criticism domestically and internationally. Of the 251 Israelis taken by Hamas and its allies in October 2023, 49 remain in Gaza, with the Israeli military stating that 27 of them are deceased.

They say they want to get as close as possible to their loved ones. About 20 family members of Israeli hostages set sail from the coastal town of Ashkelon towards Gaza, both to show their support for the captives and in protest at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's push for a total occupation of the Strip. Netanyahu has been meeting top advisors to discuss what his office described as ways to further achieve Israel's goals in Gaza since ceasefire talks with Hamas broke down last month. He is set to convene a security cabinet later this Thursday to seek approval for the plan despite mounting criticism at home and abroad. Hostages' families are afraid such a move would diminish their hopes of recovering them or their bodies. After tonight, if they will decide to get into Gaza to spread the war, then I don't think we can go back and I don't know if the hostages will ever return. I know that only by a deal, only by a deal we can save alone.
