Meteorologists report that much of the southern United States, including Texas, is experiencing unusually high temperatures, with highs in the 70s and 80s and morning lows 10 to 25 degrees above average. The warmth is accompanied by high humidity and persistent fog, indicating a moist air mass rather than a dry heat.

This pattern is expected to persist through the weekend, with the southern states remaining warm while a weather system brings cooler air to the upper Midwest and Chicago. Some areas may see record-breaking temperatures before the cooler air arrives in the north.

Denver is still sitting close to the 60s, 70s and 80s here as you get into the Southern Tier Texas is going to be the big focus. Look how many red dots we have on this map. This is indicating potential record highs, maybe some warm morning lows that break records too, and you could feel it outside. This is not like a dry air warm up. This is very soupy, and that's by evidence of just all the fog that we've had day after day too. Starting off in the morning in the Southern Tier and even parts of the Mid South today we have highs that are 10 to 25 degrees above average. The mild air in place is going to stay there all the way through the weekend. Eventually we do start to see that system. That's the one that Jim was talking about. It's going to keep some of the warm air in the Southern Tier, but places like Chicago and towards the upper Midwest that have been enjoying some warmer temperatures. You start to see those numbers come crashing back down again, but this is Saturday. Wow, that's some heat in the South.
