This allowed Rasmus Neagard-Peterson to take the outright lead, finishing the day two shots ahead. The round featured notable moments, including Siwoo Kim's surprising putt on the 15th and Smith's pursuit of his first Australian Open title.

With obstacles more fit for Mario Kart than a golf course, Hole 2 was a bit of a slip-up for Rory McIlroy. I shouldn't have been there in the first place, it was a terrible tee shot, but yeah, it wasn't the best way to start. Sort of a double whammy, it was in that little tough to long grass and then the banana skin over it. Minwoo Lee also endured a tough start, but Cam Smith was having no such worries, his short game at its immaculate best. Hasn't had a bogey since the first round, doesn't look like making one right now, he's going to keep putting as sweetly as that. McIlroy was having his fair share of bad luck. Just a couple of revs, just dimples. While Siwoo Kim was more shocked than anyone that his putt on the 15th didn't suffer the same fate. I thought that putt had stopped three times before it reached the hole. Minwoo Lee found his feet on the back nine as McIlroy enjoyed some deja vu on the 17th while Smith was on the charge. An eagle on the 14th and he almost repeated it a few shots later as he stepped up his pursuit for a first Australian Open. He's already had an eagle on the back nine and that close to another. But he would drop a shot on the 18th, allowing Rasmus Neagard-Peterson to take the outright lead. Or how big will the lead be? It'll be two. He starts and finishes the day in style.
