Wildlife rangers are investigating reports of a crocodile in the Noosa River, an area where such sightings are uncommon. There have been a growing number of sightings of crocs in southern Queensland.

Wildlife rangers have been searching the Noosa River following reports of a possible crocodile in the area, which is outside the species' usual range. The search was prompted by a silhouette resembling a crocodile that was captured on a local fisherman's fish finder. 

Despite the ongoing efforts, including night searches with torches, there has been no official confirmation of a crocodile in the river. Previous rare sightings of crocodiles have been reported further south, including recent incidents at Maryborough, Rainbow Beach, and near Bundaberg.

As we go to air tonight, yes, the hunt for a crocodile well out of its normal territory is continuing. Now wildlife rangers spent the majority of today out on the Noosa River looking for this unexpected visitor. And tonight that search effort hasn't slowed down with rangers on the riverbank lighting up the water with powerful torches to try to confirm once and for all if a crocodile has strayed into this popular holiday destination. Of course, the only indication so far that there is one in the area is a silhouette captured on a local fish-o's fish finder suggesting something in the water in the shape of a big salty. Tell me that's not a croc, it's got the snout, it's got the tail happening, that is bizarre. Now crocs swimming way south are rare, but they do happen. One was euthanized only a few weeks ago while it was sunning itself on the banks of the Mary River at Maryborough. And there's been other apparent croc sightings at Inskip Point at Rainbow Beach on the Fraser Coast and another near Bundaberg. Ursh will just have to wait and see about this one.
