The most visited site, Machu Picchu, has been closed since demonstrations spread in the area.

The occupancy and hotels until March has dropped, 90% because of cancellations unemployment soared to 75%. Some shops of closed under threat from Strikers, but don't Mariano shop that sells handmade Jews is still open for business, to pay a lot of rent. The stuff is on strike, and it's not a tourist from North America and Europe. We've run into women who make their living by offering tours to take photos with their baby out back as they come to Cusco from their Village 2 hours away, but they say there isn't enough business to buy food for their animals. The rule used to receive two million tourists before the pandemic and the strike. But now these indigenous protesters are the only ones who arrived here in large numbers. The President to resign to leave and for new elections, to be called, it's the only way. We will get back to normal. But there's no sign that either the president or Congress would meet the protesters demands while one of the world's most attractive tourist destination sinks into despair. Lucy and human Al Jazeera.
