Some students are now hiding their uniforms out of fear, and schools have nearly doubled their security spending to address the ongoing threats.

Incidents include students being chased and verbally abused, cars being graffitied with anti-Semitic slogans, and teenagers making threatening gestures. School leaders told an inquiry that most of the abuse targets the local Jewish community rather than expressing criticism of Israeli government actions. The inquiry aims to understand the reasons behind the surge in anti-Semitic incidents, with a report expected later in the year.

Last week, a year nine girl was chased up Queen's Park Road by a woman shouting, F the Jews, F-ing C-word, free Palestine, over and over. This was a child walking to school. She was terrified. The principal of Moriah College telling an inquiry into anti-Semitism, school leadership operates like a counter-terrorism unit. Its annual security spend nearly doubling to $4 million. In January, a car was graffitied, F the Jews, nearby. In 2025 so far, we are averaging at least one incident per week. That's nearly two years of relentless targeted abuse. At the Emanuel School, funds are also being diverted from excursions and sport into security. This month, a group of teenagers walking past our school called Heil Hitler and used their hand to make a shooting gesture at one of our security guards. And security can't be everywhere. There were kids in my son's year who had raw eggs thrown at them at Westfield because they were in school uniform. There were hundreds of reported instances of anti-Semitism in New South Wales after the 7th of October, but the true number is in the thousands. This inquiry was established to consider the reasons why that's the case. The principal of the Emanuel School says the majority of abuse impacting her students so far this year has not criticised the actions of the Israeli government overseas, but rather targeted the local Jewish community as a whole.
